New York is making $15 million available for expanded pre-kindergarten programs in high-need school districts. The grants are targeted at programs for three and four year olds with priority given to districts that do not currently have a State funded pre-kindergarten program and those which ensure inclusion of students with disabilities in integrated settings. New York’s commitment to pre-kindergarten is now over $800 million annually, serving 120,000 three and four-year-old students each year, and universal pre-kindergarten is free for families.
