New York is conducting a police enforcement campaign focusing on correct motorist and pedestrian behavior from Friday through June 28. The campaign is part of the recently-announced Pedestrian Safety Action Plan that utilizes engineering, education and enforcement to enhance pedestrian and motorist safety across New York State. $62 million in funding is allocated to improve pedestrian safety including installation of high visibility crosswalk markings, changing signal timing to extend crossing periods and countdown timers that tell pedestrians how many seconds they have to cross the street.
