(Press release from City of Oneonta Police)

On Thursday February 2, 2017 at about 3:40 p.m. the City of Oneonta Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 142 Chestnut St Oneonta NY a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus and other vehicles. Subsequent to the investigation, the officers discovered an Oneonta City School bus with approximately 22 children on board that had been struck from behind by a sedan that had in turn been struck from behind by a pickup truck. The Oneonta City School District bus had been stopped with its flashing lights activated when the accident occurred.

The investigation revealed that no one, including the children, had been injured and no one was transported to the hospital.  Officials from the City of Oneonta School District, including administration and medical personnel, responded to the scene and fully cooperated with emergency services to assist the children.  After the children were checked for injury, another bus completed the transportation of the children in a safe manner.  All the parents of the children were advised of the incident by the Oneonta City School District officials.  Both of the vehicles were towed from the scene and the bus, which received minor damage, was driven from the scene.

At this time the investigation is continuing and any tickets are pending.
