Riverside Elementary School in Oneonta has contacted parents in the school district that there was a reported incident Wednesday.

School officials say a suspicious individual approached school property and tried to communicate with two students.

City of Oneonta police lieutenant Doug Brenner said students told officers that the man offered them candy and when school employees approached, the suspect fled in the woods and jumped into a blue truck or van along I-88.

The search continues for the suspect. School officials urge parents to take this opportunity to remind their children to be aware of their surroundings and notify an adult if they see anything suspicious or if they are approached by a stranger.
