City of Oneonta Police Department arrested Christopher Collins, 18, of Riverhead, NY this afternoon on weapon, stolen property, and drugs charges.

Police state that the suspect was stopped for operating a motor vehicle the wrong way on the one-way Chestnut Street Extension. During the course of the traffic stop, a  9mm handgun was reported to be in plain sight in the vehicle. The ensuing investigation revealed that the suspect was unable to provide a permit for the handgun and that the weapon was loaded. Police also determined that the gun itself was stolen. A small quantity of marijuana was also reportedly discovered in the vehicle.

Collins is being charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, Class C felony; criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree, Class E felony; and possession of marijuana.

Collins was arraigned in Oneonta City Court and sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond and is to appear at a later date.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of 19 years  for all charges.
