The City of Oneonta announces that the 60th annual Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, August 5th at Hodges Pond in Neahwa Park beginning at 4 p.m. The Fishing Derby is a free “catch and release” competition for children 5 through age 15. There will be awards given out for biggest bass caught and biggest fish caught among different age categories, plus free refreshments.

All participants must provide their own fishing pole, bait/lures, and a clean bucket. Parents/Guardians must complete a registration/release form in order for their child/children to be eligible to participate in the fishing derby. 

Registration forms are available at www.oneonta.ny.us/recreation and must be mailed on or before July 31st to Lou Lansing, Recreation Department, City Hall, 258 Main Street, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Children may also be registered by a parent or guardian on Saturday, August 5th from 3 to 3:45 p.m., prior to the start of the Fishing Derby at the skatehouse area of Hodges Pond in Neahwa Park.  Fishing will begin promptly at 4:00 p.m., and the competition will be complete at 5:00 p.m.
