As Norwich High School's boys and girls basketball teams get ready for playoffs, Norwich's student cheering section is battling for a state championship of its own.

Earlier this year, a video of Norwich's enthusiastic student fans was submitted to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association as an entry into its Battle of the Fans program. The goal of this program is to highlight the best student cheering sections from across New York that promote positive sportsmanship. The Norwich video was selected by a committee to be one of the top three in the state. Each of the three finalists were then visited by the NYSPHSAA to be filmed.

Norwich's fan section was in full voice, taking over one whole set of bleachers as they cheered on the girls' team. They dressed for a "WHITE OUT," stood for the entire game, and most were losing their voices by the time the film crew left.

An alumna of the Norwich Girls Basketball team commented that "school spirit has reached a whole new level! The atmosphere was fun for the players and for everyone else in attendance at the game."

*UPDATE*

Norwich's video entry has now been posted on NYSPHSAA's Facebook and Overtime Sports. It has also been embedded below for your viewing pleasure.

The 2014 Battle of the Fans competition will begin online voting on Tuesday February 18th at 9:00 am, and will run until Friday February 22nd at 8:00 am. Be ready to cast your vote by liking NYSPHSAA on Facebook.
