Speaking on the local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up on April 19, Broome County Fire Coordinator, Brett Chellis says volunteer fire departments all around New York State will hold open houses April 26 to showcase their facilities and sign on new volunteers.

Chellis, who started his firefighter career as a teen, talks about the rewards of volunteering, the many jobs that  could be filled and the brother/sisterhood shared by firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians.

Chellis says while the Firefighters' Association of the State of New York (FASNY) is spearheading the statewide recruitment drive, interested parties can stop in at their local fire station any time someone is there to talk to the volunteers.

Southern Tier Close Up airs Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF
