New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says his office has stopped more than $24 million in what he calls questionable personal income tax refunds.

Investigators have found 7,482 improper filings so far. Auditors look at all state income tax refunds before they are paid. According to information from the state, most of the questionable refunds come from credits based on incorrect information like false or inflated numbers of dependents or understated income.

The comptroller's office say they have saved the state about $63 million so far.
