This is an interesting new law that perhaps many of us don't think about.

New York implements tougher penalties for those stealing services from barbershops, beauty shops and salon services. The measure signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo closes a loophole where stealing services was not a prosecutable crime. It is now a Class A misdemeanor which is the same penalty for leaving a restaurant without paying or stealing utility services. Cuomo said in a statement it made no sense to have a separate law just for barbershops and salons. The new provision takes effect in 90 days.
