Missing Robert Merkel, Thought to Be in Oneonta, Found Dead in Va.

Robert Merkel, the missing Virginia man who Otsego County Sheriffs were attempting to locate in the Oneonta area, was found dead Friday evening in Eastern Virginia.

Merkel, 80, left his Virginia home without his needed medication and was reported to have arrived in Oneonta on Monday. He then went missing on Tuesday and was believed to be in Oneonta's west end.

However, his body was discovered back in Virginia. Anyone with information about Merkel when he was in Otsego County is asked to call Chesapeake, Va., police at 757-382-6161.
