Following a large number of complaints that the terminology used by utility companies makes it difficult for customers to understand their bills and what they are paying for.

State Senator Tom Libous has introduced the "universal terminologies" bill that requires utility companies to issue standardized residential service bills that contain uniform format terminology definitions and fee information.

The legislation will make it easier to understand what customers are paying for and make it easier to compare bills between companies.
