On Saturday, September 17th, 2016 at approximately 1:44 a.m., Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 25 year old Leonard Ortiz of Bronx New York, on 71 felony counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, one felony count of criminal possession of forgery devices, criminal possession of marijuana in the fourth degree, speeding 86 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree. Deputies allege the defendant was found to be in possession of numerous forged credit cards and checks, as well as equipment to produce such forged instruments following a vehicle search on State Highway 17 in the Village of Hancock.

Deputies additionally seized approximately 8 ounces of marijuana during the course of this investigation, as well as numerous packaging envelopes and scales used to weigh and package the marijuana. The defendant was later arraigned in front of Judge Buckley at Hancock Village Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail or $100,00 secured bond. Deputies were assisted at the scene of the arrest by members of the Hancock Police Department.
