Gov. Cuomo has issued a State of Emergency in the wake of a massive snowstorm to slam New York State.  The governor said major highways will be closed at midnight tonight.  These highways include the Long Island Expressway and the New York State Thruway from Albany south.  Travel on the other major highways, including I-88, I-81, the Northway and Rt 17 is expected to be dangerous.

With blizzard conditions blanketing the region, the governor's office announced that highways will reopen in the early morning hours dependent on road conditions.

Counties now listed under the governor's State of Emergency include:

Albany, Allegany, Bronx, Broome, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Dutchess, Erie, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Genesee, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Kings, Lewis, Livingston, Madison, Monroe, Montgomery, Nassau, New York, Niagara, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Orange, Orleans, Oswego, Otsego, Putnam, Queens, Rensselaer, Richmond, Rockland, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, St. Lawrence, Suffolk, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, Ulster, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Westchester, Wyoming and Yates; and
