U.S. Senator from New York Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Frank R. Lautenberg of New Jersey have re-introduced the "Safe Chemicals Act" to protect Americans from dangerous toxic chemicals that are found in everyday consumer products.

The senators are pushing to reform the Toxic Substance Control Act and provide the EPA with the authority to protect Americans from harmful chemicals.

Gillibrand said she was shocked to learn the federal government is unable to require safety testing of chemicals used in products such as child car seats and dishware.
