A free New York State tax filing assistance program comes to Oneonta in April. The Department of Financial Services’ Mobile Command Center will be deployed to help eligible New Yorkers prepare and file their taxes for free.  The unit will be making stops at locations throughout Upstate New York from April 4 through April 9, including Oneonta on Wednesday, April 6 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Foothills Performing Arts Center.  State Senator Jim Seward encourages eligible taxpayers to take advantage of free tax preparation assistance as in January, Senator Seward wrote to State Department of Taxation and Finance Commissioner Jerry Boone to point out a lack of geographic diversity in the department’s free tax assistance program.  In response, officials with the department arranged to send Tax Department volunteers to several other communities with the Mobile Command Center.
