Fireball Run and ‘Back to the Future’ DeLorean Come to Norwich

Facebook

The 2012 Fireball Run will be stopping at the Northeast Classic Car Museum in Norwich late Wednesday morning through early afternoon.

The run is not a race but a 2,500-mile trivial pursuit game which originated in Independence, Ohio, September 21 and will end September 29 in Bangor, Maine.

The Fireball Run is great fun for the participants, but according to Marc Michaels, executive director of the Northeast Classic Car Museum, the run is more than a game.

“It’s also a game that has an underlying purpose, which is to bring notoriety to missing children and to help try to recover missing children,” he said. “Each team has a child from their area that they’re assigned. They carry flyers with them and hand them out all through the 2,500 miles. In the course of the race history, they have recovered 38 children so far.”

The cars will arrive anywhere from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Visitors to the museum will be admitted at half price and will be able to see the DeLorean used in the “Back to the Future” movies. They can also watch the race live streaming online.

A DVD of the run will be available after editing and shown in select theatres. The run is sponsored by Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
