The Chenango County Industrial Development Agency was notified Wednesday that the federal government has approved a $4.7 million award for the revitalization of the Chenango County rail system.

The railway not been in use for seven years since the flooding destroyed a section of the rail line from Norwich to below Oxford.

The project will reestablish freight service from Utica to Binghamton, giving businesses along the route a faster and cheaper way to get products from Utica to Binghamton and to other parts of the country
