The state health department issues an advisory for heightened mosquito activity because of warmer temperatures on the way this week. The department launched a new awareness campaign about the dangers of mosquito-borne diseases and how to avoid them focusing on the symptoms of West Nile, Eastern Equine Encephalitis and Zika. The department also provides information to veterinary medical practitioners on the appropriate procedures for diagnosing mosquito-borne illness to protect pets and animals that may also contract or carry these diseases.
