U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the Delhi Fire Department will receive $97,537 in federal grants to purchase new hoses, nozzles, and thermal imaging cameras.

The funding comes from the Fiscal Year 12 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. AFG awards are administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency and are designed to help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

Delhi Fire Department Chief Daren Evans says Without these federal funds, the local taxpayers would not be able to cover the cost of this much needed equipment. And that The new equipment will make the Delhi Fire Department more readily prepared, and will also lower the fire department’s maintenance and repair costs.
