New York is starting a program to replace at least 500,000 street lights throughout the state with energy-saving LED technology by 2025. According to Governor Cuomo’s Office,  the Smart Street Lighting NY program will save taxpayers $87 million a year, drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the quality of light and safety of communities across the state. Once implemented the higher-efficiency lights will save the equivalent of the annual power needs from nearly 45,000 households.
