Cooperstown Central School has a new nickname: CCS Hawkeyes.

The school is allowed to use the name Cooperstown Central School Hawkeyes or CCS Hawkeyes after reaching an agreement with the Cooperstown Hawkeyes, a member of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

The school district has agreed it will not use the C with feathers logo or anything similar to what the baseball team has.

The district emblem plus the school colors of black and orange will stay at Cooperstown school.

CCS Hawkeyes will become the official nickname of the school district as of July 13. The Hawkeyes nickname replaces Redskins after the school board voted to no longer have the Native American moniker as their nickname.
