Commerce Chenango president and CEO Steve Craig has contacted state and federal partners to find ways to lessen the impact of Norwich Aero'sannounced closing.

Their goal is to lessen the impact on the local economy and to assist displaced workers to find new employment.

Norwich Aero announced last week that it will close its facility in early 2015 and move its manufacturing facility to Mexico, putting 120 local employees out of work.

Parent company Esterline had said last year that they were planning a large scale restructuring, but gave no indication until now that the Chenango County plant was slated to close.

Norwich Aero was founded 30 years ago to employ the skilled workforce that was left behind after Lewis Engineering moved its business out of state.
