For the second year in a row, the higher education guide Colleges of Distinction has recognized SUNY Oneonta for its academic excellence, focus on undergraduate teaching, innovative learning experiences, opportunities for personal development, and career and graduate school preparation. SUNY Oneonta is among 337 colleges and universities profiled in the Colleges of Distinction 2017 Guidebook.

SUNY Oneonta’s Applied Learning Network of faculty and staff helps students earn college credit and valuable life experience while participating in study abroad and study away programs, service-learning activities, research projects and internships. New this fall are two Living and Learning Communities in the college’s freshman residence halls, one focused on environmental sustainability and the other on social justice.

The annual process to select the nation’s Colleges of Distinction includes a review of each institution’s freshman experience, as well as its general education program, strategic plan, and alumni success and satisfaction measures. Schools also must demonstrate results across the “Four Distinctions”—engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes. Colleges that have distinguished themselves based on these criteria are then invited to join Colleges of Distinction.
