Today’s top sports stories:

Coming off last week’s stirring 1-0 victory over Costa Rica in blizzard-like conditions in Denver, the United States Men’s National Team (#USMNT) heads south of the border to face off against archrival Mexico in an important World Cup qualifying match tonight. It’s a daunting task for Team USA, as the Mexicans have a 68-1-6 record in World Cup qualifiers at their home stadium. [ProSoccerTalk]

Nike’s new Tiger Woods ad, which contains the phrase “Winning takes care of everything,” is causing a bit of discord. Some are saying that the phrase is inappropriate in light of Woods’ marital issues these last few years, while Nike is defending the ad. It’s a phrase Woods has used himself, many times. [Yahoo]

President Obama congratulated members of the defending champs of the NHL and MLS today, the Los Angeles Kings and Los Angeles Galaxy, at the White House. [CBS]

Embattled former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o, who’s had quite a well-publicized off-season, has apparently turned down offers to sit in the green room during the NFL draft later this spring. Probably a good decision, though we recommend that Te’o confirm the identity of whoever invited him first. [S.I.]

We have no idea how this is even possible, but apparently more than 2,000 people picked Florida Gulf Coast not just to make it to the Sweet 16, which is weird enough, but to win the whole tournament. [GuySpeed]
