I paid a visit to Oneonta, Alabama while on my Southern trip this past week.  It was fun.

Oneonta is a community of about 6,000 in North Central Alabama.  It has a railroad history, much like our own city.  We pulled into Oneonta, Alabama on a Sunday so it was quiet.  Very quiet.  In fact we did not see a single person on Main Street, and we were there for over a half hour.  The main business district appears to reveal that the city is undergoing a transformation from a once thriving small town to a city focused on antique stores.  This is not uncommon.  We saw many, many antique and collectible stores along the main drag.

Like so many other small communities (including our own) this little Alabama city is showing much growth on its outskirts.  Like our own "Southside," Oneonta, Alabama's outlying areas hosts every imaginable franchise business.

This southern city has a substantial school distract facility (as you can see from the photos) and quite a bit of history.  In fact the city (which is the county seat) once contsained a German POW camp during World War II.

I have to admit it was kind of eerie seeing so many business signs saying Oneonta a thousand miles from my own hometown.  I hope you enjoy the photos of my visit as well as the videos below.
