A crowd of dozens turned out Saturday to hold a funeral for a Korean war veteran who never received a proper funeral. American legion post 806 in Bainbridge held the service for Walter Elijah Thomas, a Bainbridge native who died fighting in the Korean war. The service was held at the First Presbyterian Church with members of the Bainbridge High School Chorus singing”God Bless America” and assemblyman Cliff Crouch honoring Thomas. Thomas died as a prisoner of war in 1950. His body was never found, so he was never given a proper funeral. Thomas has his name on a soldier’s monument in Bainbridge village park
