In today's television world companies will spend hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars on :30 and :60 second television commercials.

Lets go back now to the Golden Age of Television for a second and see what TV commercials looked like back then.  Here is a perfect example.

Take one of my favorite old TV shows, "Sky King" and match it up with a commercial from it's sponsor Peter Pan peanut butter.  Look at the person playing Peter Pan.  She looks like a 30 year old housewife.  She reads her lines in a plodding, wooden style while holding up a jar of peanut putter.  Her costume looks like it was a hand me down Halloween costume.

What do you think the total cost was to produce this TV commercial on one of hte biggest children s show hits of the day?  $200?  Maybe.  Tops.

It is still fun to watch.  And imagine.  Somewhere, someplace it is possible that this woman is still around watching her moment in the sun as Peter Pan.  Maybe she went on to be an award winning actress.  Who knows?  But, I really doubt it.

Like I said, though.  It is still a lot of fun to watch...
