The first round of awards for the Community Overdose Prevention Program were announced Tuesday.

The awards will provide 39 law enforcement agencies across the state with funds to equip their officers with Naloxone and train them to use the lifesaving heroin antidote. The initial round of awards gives reimbursements to departments in nearly 30 counties in New York state for over 1,000 Naloxone kits.

Since the program began five weeks ago, 100 law enforcement agencies have applied for nearly 3,300 kits.
