I spoke this Sunday at U.S. Grant's Cottage in Wilton, NY.  This is where President Grant came for the last 6 weeks of his life.  He was suffering from terminal throat cancer and was in the high mountains to finish his memoirs, which were being published by Mark Twain.

The cottage is amazing and you can really fee the presences of these two giants of the 19th century.  Grant completed his work, allowing his family to reap profits from his book after he was gone.

The Eastern Overlook, just 1,000 feet from Grant's front porch, is an awesome place.  Really the best view you can find north of the NYS Thruway in my opinion.  You can see Vermont, Massachusetts, the towers of the Empire Plaza in Albany, the Saratoga Battlefield, the Adirondacks, the Catskills and more.  It is simply breathtaking.  They call this "Grant's Last View" because this is where the president came out to spend a few minutes the day before he died.

This is just 8 miles north of Saratoga.
