There has been a shooting incident in the village of Cooperstown. Though details are still unclear, there have been reports of shots fired in the area of Main Street. County and Village Police departments have yet to issue statements.

A spokesperson for Basset Hospital confirmed they have instituted their emergency procedures and are on lock down.

We will update as more details come in.

Update #1:

New York State Police responded to The 7th Inning Stretch store at 137 Main Street in Cooperstown, NY, to the report of shots being fired inside the store at that location.  New York State Police requested that all citizens stay away from that scene until more information was gathered.

Update #2:

New York State Police stated that the location of alleged gunman is not known at this time.

Update# 3:

The Village of Cooperstown released a statement:  "Please be advised that at approximately 9 AM an emergency situation in the Village caused the closing of a portion of Main Street.  This portion of Main Street remains closed at this time.  The Village Office has no additional information but will update the website as new information becomes available. As with any emergency situation we ask that residents stay clear of the area and if possible remain at home to ensure the safety of everyone involved and ease the burden of our emergency personnel."

Update #5: The man in the mugshot has been identified as Barry M. Renert, 62, of Richfield Springs. He was arrested on September 5th, 2013, for violating an order of protection against an unnamed woman.

Update #6: A spokesperson for Basset Hospital has announced the facility is no longer on lockdown, citing Cooperstown's Chief of Police, who feels that, though the suspect is not yet in custody, the lockdown is no longer needed.
